“What is a pre-reg car?”.

With big discounts available, our guide to ‘pre-registered’ or ‘pre-reg’ cars, explains what it is all about, and will help you make the right decision.

What does ‘pre-registered’, or ‘pre-reg’ mean?

The process of pre-registering involves a brand new un-registered vehicle being registered to a motor trade business and thus given a DVLA registration number.

The now registered vehicle may now be sold on to its new owner. The vehicle could be classed as ‘second-hand’, as you the new owner will be its second owner. However, we prefer the term “nearly new”, as the car is likely to be just weeks old, with only delivery miles on the clock and in immaculate “showroom” condition.

The vehicles are displayed on our forecourt in one of our locations in; Colchester, Clacton, Tiptree or Sudbury.

Through our close involvement with the manufacturers; Vauxhall, Peugeot, Skoda, Mazda and Kia and as their main dealer for your area, we are able to negotiate a greater rate of discount by purchasing large orders of multiple vehicles. Then pass on the savings directly to you the customer!

So what is the difference?
There is no physical difference between a factory ordered ‘brand new’ car and a ‘pre-registered’ car. The difference is in the buying experience; as when you buy a brand new car you can choose the exact specification, colour and options you desire, often waiting weeks for delivery.

However, with ‘pre-registered’, what we have available in our stock is what you can choose from, enjoying immediate delivery.

Our advertising
When promoting these types of offers, whether online or in your local newspaper, we will always identify the cars as pre-registered. Therefore it is always worth checking any car advertisements that appear to be heavily discounted, just to confirm if this is brand new or pre-registered.

Pros and Cons
To surmise, here are the pros and cons’;

  • Immediate delivery
  • Huge discounts
  • Drive away the latest registration plate vehicle

  • Wider colour choice may be limited
  • Specification options may be limited
  • You will not be the first registered owner
  • Depending on the registration date, remaining manufacturer warranty will be reduced

So there you go, all you need to know about ‘pre-registered cars’ in a few paragraphs. Are they a good choice? We think so…but please make up your own mind.

However, we would like to assure you that every Underwoods customer, whether buying a brand new, pre-registered car, will receive the same excellent customer service experience. Pre-registered cars allow us as a business to shout out a loud and clear message to our potential and existing customers: we want to provide you with the right car at the right price.
